
Salma Hayek Pinault, born Salma Valgarma Hayek Jamesenez on September 2, 1966 is an American and Mexican actress and producer. She started her career in Mexico by playing a lead role in the telenovela Teresa (1989-1991) as also in the romantic drama El Callejon de los Milagros (1995) for which she received an Ariel Award nomination. With roles in films such as Desperado (1995), From Dusk till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West (1999) and Dogma (1999), she quickly made her mark in Hollywood. Hayek's role as Frida, the painter, in Frida (2002) the film that she also produced and directed, was what made Hayek the first Mexican actress to be awarded the Academy Award [6]. This also earned her an Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award as well as British Academy Film Award nominations. Hayek was a part of the action-oriented Once Upon a Time in Mexico film in the next years and concentrated more on making films.
