Based on her observations of shadows upon the ground and shadows on the ground, the artist spent months experimenting with a method to convey objects in two dimensions onto canvas. Instead, the object is transformed into a re-creation of itself in which the painting is the vehicle for its personal interpretation by painting, particularly in the case of living or perishable items for example, like humans or fruit. Alexa Meade's style of painting, that is a bit ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only thing of her art to survive is her photograph. Both the painting and photographic techniques are so closely coordinated that the result is a flat, two dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil. The third dimension is discernible only in specific areas that are close to the eyes, or near hair. Sometimes, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D environment around them, which allows them to engage with their own self-created environment. This is a way of breaking down the barriers between photography, painting installation and performance.
